Empowering Icons: Women Leading the Future of Entertainment at the 2024 LEA Awards
Attending the 2024 LEA Awards was truly inspiring! Held at the iconic Beverly Hills Hotel, the afternoon brought together some of the most remarkable female leaders in design and advocacy. I was honored to be invited by Ellen Schned, a fantastic connector who tirelessly supports women in business and fosters spaces where mentorship and professional growth can truly flourish. The event started with a lively cocktail and champagne reception, setting the stage for conversations with fellow interior designers, industry peers, and friends who've become like family over the years.
The awards luncheon celebrated four accomplished women in arts, media and leadership who have led by example and been powerful advocates in their fields. It reminded me of the importance of mentorship in my career. Over the years, I've had the joy of mentoring many young assistants and emerging designers, sharing both the challenges and triumphs that come with a life in interior design. Guiding them through their early steps and watching them find success in arts and media spaces is one of the most fulfilling aspects of my career.
The LEA Awards featured an incredible lineup of powerhouse women shaping the future of entertainment and media. Elizabeth Casey, a lawyer at Fox Sports, is revolutionizing music licensing systems and parental ratings for television networks while offering pro bono legal services to underserved communities—showcasing her commitment to innovation and advocacy. Erin Underhill, President of Universal Television, oversees creative, casting, and production for one of the world’s most successful television studios, where she played a crucial role in developing legendary series like ER and The West Wing. Meanwhile, Shannon Ryan, President of Disney Entertainment Television, leads comprehensive marketing, publicity, and strategy initiatives for Disney’s vast portfolio, from ABC to Hulu and National Geographic. Her team spearheads campaigns for over 250 series and original movies, cementing her reputation as a visionary marketing leader. Together, these speakers exemplified the incredible opportunities Los Angeles offers as a global entertainment hub, each championing women’s leadership and empowerment across industries.
As we moved into the awards celebration and post-cocktail hour, I felt deeply grateful for this community of extraordinary women. The LEA Awards highlight the beauty of combining leadership with service, and I hope to continue this tradition of mentorship, empowering the next generation of female entrepreneurs to pursue their dreams with resilience and passion.
